New Dog Law in Los Angeles County Gives Animal Control Officers Third Party Judging Power

An ordinance was approved, in Los Angeles County, on Tuesday that will give animal control officers sole authority when presiding over administrative hearings, and in declaring dogs — a danger to society.

This new law will give animal control officers the right to determine whether a dog should be euthanized, and the ability to judge them vicious. The change to Title 10 will go into effect August 31. Continue reading

Immigration Reform Organizations Sue Sheriff Lee Baca

Immigration Reform has been a hot issue since the start of the Barack Obama presidency. There was even mention that he would work to help change immigration policies that would allow foreign nationals to work and live in the US legally.

The topic continues to make press, and it’s effects are starting reach local communities through an increase in foreign national deportation. An example of that lies in our jail system in Los Angeles County, that has partnered with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to monitor fingerprints of any person booked in county jail facilities. This fingerprint monitoring system, Secure Communities, has brought Sheriff Lee Baca  under fire for lack of transparency in it’s affiliation with the program.
